The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, assured that drug trafficking routes are moving to Ecuador, a country that, according to him, would now concentrate most of the export of cocaine through the Pacific Ocean.

This was stated in an interview given on Friday night to a local radio station in which he stated that the drug that is produced in his country “is going to Ecuador and is using Ecuadorian ports”. He added that this phenomenon is causing serious consequences for the region.

He explained that “it already seems that most of the export of cocaine through the Pacific is being made from the ports of Ecuador, carrying the death trail to that country and turning it into a larger cocaine export platform than the one that currently exists in Colombia.”

In his statements, the president also revealed that he asked the National Police to strengthen cooperation mechanisms with his Ecuadorian counterpart.
