At the International Summit on Public Management and Digital Economy (CIGED) Venezuela 2026, the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) presented concrete advances towards digital transformation with the human being as its epicenter, under a scheme that combines modernization and efficient regulation adapted to the demands of the Venezuelan reality.

On behalf of the regulatory body, the manager of Telecommunication Services Management, Alejandro Jurado, highlighted the substantial increase in the authorization of new operating companies and the deployment of optical fiber in the country over the past year, milestones that reflect the sustained dynamization of the market in the context of the National Telecommunications Plan 2025-2031.

Between March and August, the regulatory body executed 127 administrative acts. In addition, around 40 additional authorizations were recently issued, including authorizations, renovations and modifications, providing legal certainty and encouraging investment in telecommunications infrastructure.

The indicators also show compliance with the annual goal of 207 percent in optical fiber transport and 334% in the last mile.

In relation to the expansion of 4G network coverage, this reaches 65%, while the increase in 4G base capacity exceeded the annual target by 305%. Regarding the deployment of 5G technology, the projected goal shows an increase of 78%.

Guided by the principle of equitable access to telecommunications services, CONATEL has 75% coverage in parishes with a lack of connectivity.

In his speech, Jurado emphasized the cross-cutting nature of telecommunications, a sector that not only leverages digital transformation, but also supports national economic growth.

This statement constituted a recurring premise among the experts participating in CIGED 2026, who position telecommunications services as a fundamental pillar of the digital economy.

CIGED 2026 celebrated its third day on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October after its visit to the states of Carabobo and Aragua. It is based on pillars of digital governance, an approach to digital futures and a contribution to digital transformation, directly impacting the local and national socio-economic context.
