The vice-president of the Confederation of Agriculture (Confeagro), Jhonatan Medina, announced that the organization presented important proposals to boost the production of cereals and sorghum.
During his participation in the new program “La Jornada”, broadcast by VTV, Medina explained that these initiatives have been implemented through the National Sowing Plan, which estimates that 300,000 hectares of sorghum will be planted mainly in the states of Guárico and Portuguesa.
Medina said that last year there was a great agreement between President Nicolás Maduro, who proposed that a great National Plan for the Development of Sorghum would be implemented this year. “Right now, thanks to the support of the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, the plan is under way,” he said.
He recalled that Venezuela has a solid historical record in this crop, ranking 19th in the world in sorghum production.
“Sorghum is a product with much lower costs for development, care and few pests. We want to materialize what we were until the 90s: a producing power. We are looking for alternatives that are efficient in the face of economic reality and the challenges of climate change,” said Medina.
