Parliamentary exchanges between the Venezuelan Legislature and the Colombian Congress promote bilateral ties and facilitate the creation of laws that protect citizens against unscrupulous non-governmental organizations, which seek to profit from migratory movements between the two nations, said the deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Vanesa Montero.
In the program Coffee in the Morning, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he pointed out that from Venezuela “we are doing our analysis for this relationship between the two countries, especially for the strengthening of these meetings.”
He stressed that Colombia and Venezuela are sister nations under the same father, the Liberator Simon Bolivar, and added that the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, formed a Special Commission that will investigate all the acts perpetrated against Venezuelan migrants.
“We in the Venezuelan parliament are also building laws and legal instruments that can protect Venezuelan women and Venezuelans,” he said.
Montero said that the Permanent Committee on Foreign Policy of the AN, accompanied by the Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by Deputy Julio Chávez, visited the Colombian Congress to mobilize agendas in the social, economic, human rights and diplomatic spheres.
“Strengthening proposals were able to be generated for these areas of work, as well as care for Venezuelans in Colombia and Colombians in Venezuela,” he explained.
The deputy also celebrated the progressive recovery of diplomatic relations with Colombia since the current Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, took office.
He said that the senator of the neighboring country, Gloria Flórez, “has been very aware of the issues of Venezuela and the work we have to do together.”
