The representative of the Councils of the Popular Power of Fishermen and Aquaculturists (CONPPA), Luis García, highlighted that the deployment of the Venezuela Eat Fish Plan has allowed consumers to access fish protein with significant savings.

“A kilo of fish between 3 and 3.5 dollars represents savings of up to 12 dollars per kilo,” he said, during his participation in the Coffee in the Morning program.

García pointed out that the coordination between the Ministry of Fisheries and the fishermen's councils has strengthened direct distribution.

“The link between the National Government and the fishermen's councils has allowed Operation Venezuela Eat Fish to produce visible results,” he said.

He explained that the installation of the CONPPA, there are more than a thousand points of sale nationwide, has reduced queues at traditional fishmongers.

“In La Guaira you can no longer see long queues. That shows that we are achieving the objectives,” he said.

He said that on a recent day in Caraballeda, 350 kg of fish were distributed in two and a half hours, driven by the relationship between quality and price.

“The quality linked to the price is what makes the product sell out so quickly,” he said.

García also highlighted the organizational structure of the fishing sector and the advances in processing.
“Today, many fishermen are processing fish and placing vacuum-packed products, without scales or galls, with the freshness that characterizes the CONPPA brand,” he said.
