This Tuesday, it became known that the conservative leader Friedrich Merz, after a first failed vote, won his election as chancellor of Germany with 325 votes in Parliament.

Merz previously fell six votes short of the majority in the first round of voting, winning only 310 votes from the 630 members of the Bundestag, a historic event after German reunification in 1990.

The Conservative leader must receive the certificate of appointment from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Bellevue Palace.

During this period of early elections held in February, the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party led the elections with 28.5% of the votes, followed by the extreme right-wing Alternative for Germany (AFD), which achieved a historic second place with 20.8% of the votes.
