Last Sunday, the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that a fault in the 220 kilovolt (kV) Nuevitas-Tunas line caused an electrical disconnect that affected the entire east of the island, starting at 07:37 (local time).

The Electric Union reported that the origin of the automatic trigger that activated the protection systems and left several provinces in the east of the Caribbean island without service is being investigated.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines announced through its official account in X that the supply was restored in Las Tunas, marking the beginning of progressive recovery in the rest of the affected provinces.

In addition to Las Tunas, the Holguín substations already have energy, as was also confirmed by X.

In the first few minutes of Monday, the Cuban Electric Union indicated in its official X account that at that time it had been able to reach Santiago de Cuba with energy. “The recovery of the east of the country continues.”
