Cuba joins South Africa's lawsuit before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the Israeli regime for the genocide it perpetrates against Palestinians in Gaza.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, the lawsuit will proceed as a third State, given that “Israel has flagrantly violated” international norms “with its actions in the illegally occupied Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip”.

Cuba also points out that it acts in accordance with Article 63 of the Statute of the Court and responds to the “strict observance of Cuba's obligations as a State Party to the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide”.

The Cuban Government insists that the objective of the initiative is “to stop atrocities against the Palestinian people as a result of the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by Israel.”

“Genocide, apartheid, forced displacement and collective punishment cannot have a place in today's world, nor can they be tolerated by the international community. Justice and respect for the Charter of the United Nations and International Law must prevail,” he says.

In addition, the Greater Antilles has criticized Israel for acting with total impunity, “protected by the complicity of the United States Government”, in such a way that the regime “ignores its obligations as an occupying power”.

In turn, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, specified that “we must put an end to the massacre against the people of Palestine,” he said.

With this step, Cuba joins the list of Latin American countries that have requested to support South Africa's demand, including Chile, Nicaragua, Colombia and Mexico.
