The city of Cumaná, Sucre state, experienced a memorable day with the reopening of the Gualberto Ibarreto Cultural Boulevard, located in the El Peñón sector.

This was announced by the governor of the state of Sucre, Jhoanna Carrillo, through her account on the social network Instagram, in which she noted that the event of great institutional and cultural significance was framed in the recent and momentous declaration of the Venezuelan joropo as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Carrillo highlighted the importance of recovering public spaces such as the boulevard, which honors the trajectory of this interpreter of folklore and serves as an epicenter for the promotion of traditions.

“This boulevard not only recovers the infrastructure, but it restores the cultural spirit of Cumaná; it is a starting point for our future generations to connect with music, art and especially with our Joropo, which yesterday was declared a World Heritage Site and was in honor of the Cumanés teacher Hernán Marín,” he said

During the reopening ceremony, the honored Venezuelan singer-songwriter, Gualberto Ibarreto, was present, as well as several exponents of oriental music, who delighted the public with their talent.

Ibarreto expressed his deep gratitude for the tribute and for seeing his legacy immortalized in a space that will promote art and family life; he also honored the King of the Refrain, Hernán Marín, with a minute of silence for his physical departure.

The mayor of the Sucre municipality, Pedro Figueroa, also accompanied the activity and highlighted the joint work of the institutions and the community. “El Peñón is filled with light, this boulevard belongs to the families of Cumaná, a safe and beautiful place where oriental culture will have its home; today we celebrate Gualberto and celebrate Joropo, which is the soundtrack of our nation,” he said.
