“In the electoral campaign, we have to explain to our
people that we are going to win on July 28, among other things, so that Venezuela
joins the BRICS to strengthen strategic cooperation with Russia, to continue to
advance in the multipolar world and to bring comprehensive cooperation to the country that frees
us from the ties of the oil rentier model.”
This was stated by Ambassador Coromoto Godoy Calderón,
Deputy Minister for Europe of the Ministry of People's Power for
Foreign Affairs, during her speech at the Forum “Strategic Transcendence of the
Study of the BRICS”, held at the Bolivian Museum, under the organization of the Institute for Higher Diplomatic Studies “Pedro Gual” (IAEDPG) and
the Center for Intersaber Thought.
The diplomat urged the revolutionary forces,
during the electoral campaign that began on Thursday, July 4, to publicize the vital
importance of Venezuela's relationship with
countries in favor of a multipolar world.
“This campaign that leads us to a decisive battle for the
independence of Venezuela and we can see, feel, the popular triumph of
July 28. But we know that there are serious threats, we know the fascist nature
of the factors of the extreme right in our country and the
plans they are preparing with the support of US imperialism have already been unveiled. An imperialism,
in the decline of its global hegemony and - precisely for that reason - on the rise in its
dangerousness and irrationality... Joining the BRICS is also guaranteeing the legacy of Bolívar and Chávez!”
, he emphasized.
Deputy Minister Godoy shared a panel with the
general director of the IAEDPG and Deputy Minister for Comprehensive Care for
Venezuelan Migration of the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Pedro
Sassone; the president of the National Institute for
Socialist Training and Education (INCES) and founder of the Intersaber Thinking Center, Wuikelman Paredes; the
Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Tatiana Pugh; the
Deputy Minister for Latin America, Rander Peña, and the president of the National Center
for Historical Studies, Omar Hurtado, among other experts.
He stressed that the people know the benefits of
Venezuela's relationship with the multipolar world and recalled the times of
the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Venezuelan people received the support that
Russia provided with the Sputnik vaccine.
In addition, he highlighted that as a
result of this alliance, major projects have also been implemented, such as the construction of a plant for the
manufacture of insulin, advances in the payment communication system between
Caracas and Moscow, as an alternative to the Swift platform; the expansion of study
opportunities for Venezuelans in Moscow, through the
Grand Marshal Foundation of Ayacucho (Fundayacucho), among other achievements.
Russia, closer
The Deputy Minister for Europe highlighted the
strategic vision that Hugo Chávez and Vladimir Putin had at the time and now
President Nicolás Maduro, which in her opinion has helped
Venezuelans to now have a closer perception of the Eurasian region and more specifically of Russia.
“Russia is the only Eurasian country in the BRICS group and that geopolitical
condition is its greatest strength, although it is what has led US
imperialism to seek to encircle it, to prevent the BRICS from expanding across Europe, and that the example of the multipolar world
is welcomed
by the peoples of neighboring countries,” he explained.
However, the diplomat pointed out that the measures
imposed by Western countries against Russia have not fulfilled the objective
of reducing Moscow's geopolitical influence; “on the contrary, consideration has increased for the role of the Russian leadership and
the courage of its people.”
“In 2023, Russia became a 'high-income country',
remaining the fourth economy in the world, with GDP growth
of almost 8% in one year, by purchasing power parity (PPP), reaching 6.45 trillion dollars.
It strengthened its sovereignty and its links with other regional
blocs, it works on its own payment infrastructure, independent
of the dollar, anchored in gold (40%) and BRICS+ currencies (60%),” he explained.
He announced that Venezuela and Russia will sign a “Strategic
Partnership and Cooperation Agreement” to give greater projection to bilateral
cooperation and joint work on strategic issues,
“agreeing on the main thing, which is respect for sovereignty and the
willingness to face neocolonial and imperialist practices together.”
Finally, Deputy Minister Godoy recalled that this is the year
of the Russian presidency of BRICS +, which in her opinion will bring news about Venezuela
's membership in this space.
“A great BRICS summit awaits us in Kazan, from October
22 to 24, which aims to speed up the integration processes of new members
. It will be an exceptional summit, which will mark a new
phase and which will have the people of Venezuela victorious to continue recovering the
economy and embarking on the 7 strategic transformations, with our
brother countries of ALBA-TCP and CELAC, with the project of the Great
Latin American and Caribbean Homeland as a great nation, pole of power of the
multipolar world, on the bicentenary of the Battle of Ayacucho, realizing the dream of
our Liberator Simon Bolivar of the balance of the universe,” he concluded.
