The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, spoke this Monday during the World Food Forum of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, where he presented strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening local food production and the nutritional security of vulnerable families on the island.
Regarding the socio-economic situation and territorial development plans in the face of the complexities faced by the nation, the president explained that the Caribbean government promotes “proposals with high added social value designed to directly benefit the most vulnerable sectors of the nation”, aimed at inclusion and environmental sustainability.
“We also reaffirm our commitment to the Hand in Hand initiative, which promotes investments based on advanced geospatial models, market analysis and strategic alliances to accelerate the transformation of agri-food systems,” said the head of state, detailing the international cooperation mechanisms implemented to energize rural economies.
The dignitary also confirmed that strengthening key production chains such as coffee and honey will consolidate sustainable livelihoods, generate local jobs and guarantee the food sovereignty of the Cuban population in the face of global economic pressures.
