The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, during the press conference of the red awning, reiterated that the nation will not cease its claim for the Esequibo territory.
In that regard, he recalled that in the country, “a referendum was held a few years ago and the Venezuelan State received a mandate”, so the “state of Guayana Esequiba was created, the governor of the state of Guayana Esequiba was elected and we are there, in the territory”.
He specified that the defense of the territory goes beyond stating the reasons before the ICJ, “beyond the decision they may make in that International Court of Justice (ICJ), a group of people who know the pressures on which they are being subjected. Nothing and no one can make us give up the rights that Venezuela has over its Guyanese territory.”
Cabello highlighted the participation before the court in The Hague by the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, while reiterating that the territorial dispute can only be resolved through the Geneva Agreement.
