The Department of Culture of the State of Táchira held a gala day to honor the artistic career of the master Leonel Durán, in the spaces of Casona 25 in San Cristóbal.
The activity, which was carried out in conjunction with the Museum of Visual and Space Arts (MAVET), was attended by the head of the Cultural Division, José Gregorio Parra, who, representing the director of Culture, Pedro Fressel, emphasized the importance of decentralizing the arts and ensuring that cultural spaces function as meeting points for the evaluation of living references in the region.
For her part, the coordinator of MAVET, Clara de Contramaestre, highlighted the relevance of this tribute after the appointment of Durán as “Artistic Glory of Venezuela” in the National Culture Award 2024-2025.
The artistic program was a display of talent that included the dance-theater piece “La Quiebra del Chorote”, performed by the Táchira Folk Educational Projection Foundation and the Los Histriones Theater, together with the traditional music group Tajo de Yuca.
The audience also enjoyed the musical intervention of Los Montañeros de Cordero, a poetic recital by Oscar Ramírez Rovira, the play Raise Your Voice by the group Arte y Movimiento, and the theatrical presentation Oro Azul by William Leal and Abelardo Chavarriaga, to close with the dramatized reading of Manifesto 2026 by the cultor Jorge Luis Dávila.
During his speech, Durán recounted his 73-year career dedicated to art, recalling his first mural in La Guacara designed in his teens, and his monumental stained glass windows of more than 200 square meters.
