The United States government has exposed its double standards by sending $157 million in Humanitarian Aid to Lebanon, after funding with $8.7 billion the Israeli war machine that has destroyed and killed thousands of people in the Gaza Strip and Lebanese territory.
Faced with the genocide perpetrated by Israel, with the shameless support of Western powers, in particular the United States, against the People of Palestine, many countries of the world are watching, but very few are raising their voices, since due to their interests they prefer to remain silent.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the numbers of murders are shocking, so far 2,023 individuals have lost their lives since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, while 9,526 have been injured. The total number of deaths includes 127 children and 261 women.
The bombs dropped by the Zionist State of Israel fall on hospitals, schools and homes, destroying lives and futures, violating international law and human rights, while the international community looks the other way, perpetuating a shameful double standard.
These actions show that Israel's military campaign is proceeding with astonishing impunity, justified on the premise of its “right to defend itself”. But who defends the defenseless in Gaza? Who stands up for the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians trapped in inhumane conditions, subject to a cruel blockade that denies them access to the most basic things such as water, food and medical care? The dominant narrative, driven by the media and Western powers, criminalizes the oppressed and justifies the massacre of those who dare to resist occupation and apartheid.
What is most outrageous is the blatant hypocrisy of those who claim to defend “democracy” and “human rights”. The United States, a major promoter of wars and conflicts around the world, has provided $8.7 billion in military aid to Israel, equipping it with the weapons to commit war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon. However, when these countries are devastated by conflict, Washington appears as the supposed savior, offering $157 million in “humanitarian aid” to Lebanon. For what? To “repair the damage” caused by bombs financed and supplied by the American empire itself.
This cycle of destruction followed by aid is the ultimate expression of imperialist cynicism. How can one speak of “humanitarian aid” when the same powers that offer it are those that finance and arm those responsible for the devastation? Can you wash your hands with charity money after you have contributed to the destruction of entire nations?
The double standard is evident. When Israeli bombs destroy Palestinian homes or devastate neighborhoods in Beirut, the international media are silent or, worse, justify violence as a “legitimate” Israeli response, but when the peoples of the region dare to defend themselves, they are immediately branded as “terrorists” and condemned to global ostracism.
For this reason, since Venezuela, the Bolivarian Revolution has been clear in its unconditional support for the oppressed peoples of Palestine and Lebanon, to firmly denounce the genocide that Israel, with the complicity of Western powers, is perpetrating in the region.
Especially since this conflict does not only have geopolitical interests; there is an agenda of domination and control that seeks to strip Arab peoples of their lands and resources, perpetuating Zionist hegemony in the Middle East.
It is time for the peoples of the world to wake up and understand that US imperialism, together with its allies in Israel, is not a defender of peace and human rights, but is primarily responsible for the violence and chaos that plague the region. We cannot allow history to be written only by oppressors. We must raise our voices, denounce the genocide and stand in solidarity with the victims of this brutal aggression.
The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, have made it clear that Gaza and Lebanon are not alone. Their struggles are our struggles.
In addition, Commander Hugo Chávez said: “Israel will be condemned one day, we have no doubt about it.” Therefore, today, more than ever, that condemnation must come from all the free peoples of the world who demand justice for those who have fallen in Gaza and Lebanon.
