Ecofestival Papa Nativa holds its XIII Edition in the state of Mérida

On December 18, the community of Gavidia, located in the Rangel municipality of the state of Mérida, will celebrate the XIII edition of the Native Potato Ecofestival, an activity that seeks to raise awareness of the importance of knowing, studying and valuing the seed of this important ancient tuber.

The event will take place at the “José Nicomedes Castillo” school, from 9:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon. The Ecofestival is a space dedicated to the celebration and preservation of traditions related to the conservation, multiplication and diversification of native potato seeds and other indigenous areas of the Venezuelan Andes.

In the words of the Declaration of Knowledge and Traditions of Native Potato Seed, 2015, “We celebrate our history of sharing knowledge and practices related to the conservation, multiplication and diversification of native potato seeds and native crops of the Venezuelan Andes in all their diversity.”

This event is promoted by the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt), through the Scientific-Peasant Alliance, which includes the Corporation for Scientific and Technological Development (Codecyt) and the National Fund for Science, Technology and Innovation (Fonacit), in collaboration with the Civil Association Mano a Mano and the Cooperativa Vertientes de Agua Viva.
