People who were trapped after the collapse of their building in Tanaguarena, La Guaira state, were detected after four days of uninterrupted work by teams from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), together with members of national security agencies and rescue brigades from Mexico, reported the General Commander of the Bolivarian Army, M/G Rubén Darío Belzares Escobar.
“It is a great, immense effort that is being made in this place for the recovery of two or three people, we don't have the number because logically we have to get to the site, but they are survivors who, even after four days, by a miracle of God, out of hope and because of the effort he is making in this case, the FANB, the protection, security and risk agencies and the Mexican colleagues, we are arriving, and I think there will be a success, a glorious end, a blessed end when we can get these people out that they are here,” he told the cameras of the Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) news team.
He reported that among the rubble of the building, signs of life, voices and cries have been detected in three places, and a deployment has been made throughout this sector.
Recognizing the tragedy that has caused very serious damage, a contingent of approximately six thousand personnel has been deployed to the site, in that sector alone. “Trying to touch each of the buildings to be able to locate, among the dead, regrettable, right? and people who are still alive. At this specific point, through recognition, we were able to locate living people, there is life here and we are making the effort.”
The Major General recalled that the teams have been working continuously for more than 20 hours, excavating carefully at different sites, to prevent the removal of debris from causing new collapses.
“Another positive focus is that we may have more survivors. The Venezuelan human being clings to life and, well, they hope to move forward and they have their FANB, they have their security agencies,” he said, reporting that even Civil Protection and Firefighters from the state of Táchira have come to La Guaira to collaborate.
