The commander of the Integral Defense Operational Zone (ZODI) of the Guayana Esequiba state, G/D Henry González Velázquez, reported that members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) are deployed in the Cuyuní River, in order to preserve peace and territorial integrity.
“We are organizing river patrols for all sectors of integral development, along the length and breadth of the Cuyuní River,” he said.
He also stated that “there are no reports of incidents in surrounding communities involving firearms.”
Then, González Velázquez, through a video showing a tour of the aforementioned area, stressed that “Venezuela is a territory of peace”.
This river patrol is due to the alert of the Sectorial Vice President of Defense and Sovereignty, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, about a statement from Guyana reporting a new incident in the area of the upper Cuyuní River.
Through a video posted on his official Telegram channel, he warned of the possibility that it is a “false positive”. He assured that it is orchestrated to destabilize the region.
“We denounce the attempt to create a new front of confrontation in the midst of the territorial dispute with Guiana Essequiba. There is a sufficient Venezuelan military presence in line with the territory that was voraciously and illegally usurped and exploited by the Irfaan Ali government,” said Padrino López.
