In a new privatization offensive, the Government of Javier Milei began the sale of Energía Argentina S.A. (Enarsa), the main state company in the energy sector. The announcement comes just one day after the dismantling of the Belgrano Cargas state railway.
Through Resolution 1050/2025, published this Friday, July 25 in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Economy formalized the beginning of the privatization process with the sale of 100 percent of the shares that Enarsa owns in Citelec S.A. (the firm that controls Transener), responsible for transporting electricity throughout the country.
Transener operates more than 12,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines, which connect power plants to electrical distribution centers. The Argentine State, through Enarsa, controls 52.65 percent of that key infrastructure.
The plan provides for a national and international public tender to complete the sale within a maximum period of eight months. The Public Enterprise Transformation Agency was appointed to coordinate the operation, and a public banking institution will be responsible for appraising the stock package.
This announcement is only the first step in a larger plan aimed at the total disintegration of Enarsa, separating its business units to facilitate its sale in parts. Meanwhile, the Government promises continuity of works and services, different voices warn of the loss of energy sovereignty and public control of critical infrastructure.
