A federal judge in the United States ordered an end to indiscriminate immigration raids in Southern California, based on a person's skin color, language or profession.
Judge Maame Frimpong issued the order to stop discriminatory arrests without probable cause. He also ordered not to restrict lawyers' access to a migrant detention center in Los Angeles, California.
The measure comes in response to a lawsuit filed in California district court by affected individuals and human rights organizations. It was motivated by the violent assault on workers carried out on June 22 by masked people who were wearing only a U.S. Border Patrol vest.
Family members of the detainees have agreed that they are incommunicado and that the arrests were based on racial profiling.
The entities that filed the lawsuit with the judge included as evidence three detained immigrants and two U.S. citizens, one of whom was held despite showing identification to the agents.
Migrant advocates accuse immigration officials of arresting people based on their ethnicity, making warrantless arrests, and denying detainees access to legal aid at a detention center in downtown Los Angeles.
