The International Football Association Federation (FIFA) activated its Humanitarian Fund with a donation of one million dollars, to strengthen assistance and recovery efforts in Venezuela, following the earthquakes that occurred in the central-north of the country.
The resources, the sports body reported, will be aimed at immediate humanitarian care, the strengthening of emergency actions and direct support to affected communities, as well as to organizations that provide urgent aid on the ground.
The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, stressed that “football has a unique capacity to unite and inspire hope, especially in times of crisis,” according to a press release published by VTV on its website.
He added that, through the FIFA Foundation, the institution is proud to stand with the Venezuelan people and to support humanitarian and local partners who work tirelessly to provide assistance to those most affected.
FIFA also recognized the work carried out by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), whose active participation in assistance and logistics efforts demonstrated the valuable contribution that sport can offer to communities during emergencies.
