With a display of joy, tradition and knowledge, the First National Meeting of Toy and Toy Manufacturers, Mérida chapter, was inaugurated, where more than 30 artisans from 23 states of the country have been meeting since June 18 in Plaza Las Heroinas, in the capital of the Andean entity, to exhibit their most recent recreational creations.

Until June 20, different recreational and training activities will be carried out aimed at children, young people and adults in the region, with the purpose of continuing to promote the game and its traditional toys. In addition, a visit to local media is planned to disseminate the schedule planned for these days of fun and encounter with the traditional.

During the inauguration, the president of the Red Art Foundation, Aracelis García Reyes, toured the spaces of the fair together with Vanessa Rodríguez, the sole authority of culture in the state of Mérida; Carlos Rodríguez, president of the Municipal Institute of Culture of the Libertador municipality; and Agustín Conas, president of the National Association of Artisan and Artisan Toys of Venezuela.

During the tour, the authorities spoke with the participants about mechanisms to continue strengthening the knowledge and practices of traditional toy making in the town of Merida.

The opening included the presentation of dance, theater groups and the stable musical group of the Foundation for Cultural Development of the State of Mérida (FUNDECEM), accompanied by an artisanal exhibition by the Revolutionary Front of Artisans and Artisans of Mérida.

The program of this first meeting will combine spaces for theoretical debate and practical activities in Plaza Las Heroinas, with talks on literature and education in artisanal toy making.

This Friday, June 19, the training agenda will be deployed simultaneously in public spaces and in educational institutions such as the “Doctor Ramón Reinoso Núñez” and “Antonio Ricaurte” schools. In these schools, toy makers from the states of Miranda, Anzoátegui, Bolívar and Lara will facilitate workshops to make traditional toys and puppets.
