The American narrative about the alleged cartel of the Suns only seeks to tarnish the image of Venezuela and hide the real beneficiaries of drug trafficking, said the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
“There is the Northern Cartel, which is clandestine. 85% of the billions of drug traffickers are in banks, they investigate and discover (...) 500 billion dollars annually. It is in the United States where the Mafia is,” said the President in an exclusive interview for the space “Conversing with Correa”, conducted by former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa.
In this regard, Maduro assured that if Washington really wanted to investigate the cartels, it should look internally, because “all drug trafficking in South America and the world is directed from the United States.”
He also assured that the increase in the United States' military presence in the Caribbean does not pursue drug trafficking but, on the contrary, attempts to control our natural wealth.
“You've never seen that, nothing more so when the October crisis of 1962. 1200 missiles have a nuclear submarine and now they say they have Puerto Rico and the governor of Puerto Rico said it was the base for a military operation against Venezuela and it's added to a military plan (...) They are looking for oil, not drug trafficking. Gas, we are the main reserve in the world increased by new recovery factors; the main gas reserve in the entire Caribbean where these people are and the first gold reserve in the world. 30 million hectares of A1 land for crops, drinking water and a fundamental geographical position,” he stressed.
