At least 13 people died after sudden floods caused by heavy rains in south-central Texas, United States, with violent flooding of the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, News 4 San Antonio reported this Friday, July 4, the Russian website Today reported.
He points out that among those affected are some girls who attended the Camp Mystic camp, and about 20 of them are missing, according to the AP agency.
Rescue teams work with boats in coastal areas and camps affected by the current of water.
On the other hand, international media report that the lieutenant governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, reported at a press conference that approximately 20 girls are missing from the camp.
He stressed that this does not necessarily mean that they are lost, because they could be in safe places but without communication.
Floods have also caused significant interruptions to basic services. In Kerrville, around 2,750 families were without power this Friday afternoon.
Areas such as Hunt and Center Point South (Highway 27) are “flooded or completely inaccessible”, preventing electrical power restoration work. In Hunt, authorities reported “numerous downed electrical poles,” and the total damage has yet to be determined.
The National Weather Service for the Austin-San Antonio region, which covers Kerr County, warned that rain is expected to continue through the night through Saturday, so residents are advised to keep an eye on weather updates and stay away from flooded areas to ensure their safety.
