The Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yvan Gil, recalled the irrited Arbitral Award of Paris of October 3, 1899, a ruling issued in the context of pacts between colonial powers, which at that time stripped the Venezuelan State of the Essequibo territory.

In this regard, in his account on the social network Instagram, he explained that “this unfair and illegal award not only violated our territorial rights, but also evidenced the inequalities of the colonial system of the time, whose injustices have had consequences to the present day”.

He also pointed out that “the rich and strategic Essequibo region is a territory that has historically been part of our identity and culture.”

He also indicated that the referendum of December 03, 2023, “made it clear that Venezuelans and Venezuelans will not give up in our claim to the Essequibo, today converted into a symbol of resistance and desire to recover what rightfully belongs to us.”
