The foreign minister, Yván Gil, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, greeted the peoples and governments of the region on the occasion of the Day of Latin American and Caribbean Unity.
Through his Telegram channel, Gil specified that “this date commemorates the historic Congress of Angostura in 1819, where the Liberator Simon Bolivar delivered his famous speech and formally proposed the creation of a single sovereign State through the union of Greater Colombia, thus affirming the brotherhood of our peoples, their shared history and their common destiny”.
In this regard, he assured that the political integration project bequeathed by El Libertador is still in force and necessary, while reiterating that “Venezuela will continue to advocate for the unity of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, so that we can consolidate a strong and sovereign block, aimed at providing the greatest possible amount of happiness, social justice and self-determination to our nations.”
