Venezuela is not seeking a military confrontation with the United States (USA), despite the constant aggressions and threats promoted by the Donald Trump administration, said the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, in an interview with the American television channel CNN.

‎ “We are not betting on conflict nor do we want conflict,” said Gil, who published part of the interview on the social network Telegram.

However, he specified that the country has the necessary preparation “to deter the possibility of deployment” and to defend its territory with determination.

‎En in relation to the hostile policy promoted by the empire against the Venezuelan people, the diplomat said that the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) repudiates the military deployment of American ships and troops in the Caribbean Sea, disrespecting the Zone of Peace and flagrantly violating the Treaty of Tlatelolco.

‎Desde the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry in Caracas, the diplomat rejected the Donald Trump administration's suggestion that President Nicolás Maduro belongs to a drug cartel.

‎ “It's totally false that the Venezuelan State or its leaders have even a minimal relationship with drug trafficking,” he said.

Foreign Minister Gil referred to the position of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which recently expressed its “deep concern” about the military deployment that occurred in the region.

CELAC issued a firm, categorical statement calling for respect for the Zone of Peace enacted in 2014,” he said.

The minister also referred to the Treaty of Tlatelolco, signed in 1967, which declares Latin America and the Caribbean a zone free of nuclear weapons.
