The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation,
Sergey Lavrov, met this Tuesday with his counterpart from the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), Choe Son-hui, whom he thanked for Pyongyang's
support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
“Without a doubt, we always support North Korea
in the UN (United Nations Organization) and we highly appreciate its
same position in support of the position of the Russian Federation, including on
issues related to the special military operation that we are carrying
out in Ukraine,” Lavrov said during the meeting.
The diplomats stressed that the meeting is aimed at
promoting the implementation of the agreements reached last September during the
meeting in the Russian Far East between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.
Lavrov stressed that both countries are strengthening their
cooperative relations within the framework of major international organizations and
condemned the United States and its satellites for “creating threats to North Korea's
security (...) We will continue to urge them to renounce any
step that leads to an escalation of tension,” he said.
For her part, the Foreign Minister of the Asian country stressed that the
fact that friendly relations between Russia and the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea have become strategic is the merit of Putin and Kim,
stressing that the North Korean leader's visit to Russia paved the way to
“create a new milestone in the fight against military threats and
provocations from unified imperialist forces”.
