FUNVISIS records 1,200 earthquakes in the country after 18 days of continuous monitoring

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) has recorded a total of 1,204 seismic events in the national territory after maintaining an uninterrupted deployment of technical monitoring for the past 18 days. This continuous monitoring was formally activated on June 24, in order to evaluate in detail the behavior of tectonic plates after the natural contingency recorded on that date.

According to reports collected by the country's network of seismological stations, recent earthquake activity has been concentrated primarily in the north-central and western regions of Venezuela.

Real-time monitoring has allowed geographic and institutional specialists to geolocally record each movement to keep prevention alerts up to date.

In addition, the technical authorities explained that the FUNVISIS cumulative seismicity map reflects a concentration of minor events on its intensity scale. It was specified that the vast majority of these recorded movements have had quantities lower than 4.0, which represents a regular behavior in the release of waste energy in affected areas under strict institutional surveillance.
