FUNVISIS reported a magnitude 3.9 earthquake northeast of Naiguatá in La Guaira

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) reported that this Friday, July 10, at 10:53 a.m., an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded in the state of La Guaira, an entity that suffered the greatest damage after the double earthquake that occurred last June 24.

According to the agency's technical report, the earthquake had its epicenter 10 kilometers northeast of the town of Naiguatá, with a depth of 5.5 kilometers. The geolocation data indicated a latitude of 10.70 and a longitude of 66.71.

In the context of the current contingency, the national Government is deploying a team of specialists from the Department of Geophysics of FUNVISIS on the central coast. Professionals are evaluating, recording and measuring the displacement of seismic deformation in affected areas.

For these soil diagnostic tasks, technical commissions use Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment, a cutting-edge technology that allows the precise identification of internal deformity and the characteristics of the localized rupture zone.
