Gaiteros
del Zulia and Guaiquerís de Margarita won the last two tickets to the semifinals of
the Super Professional Basketball League (SBP).
Gaiteros, the current
monarch of the SPB, defeated Brillantes del Zulia by a landslide 100-76, at Pedro Elías Belisario Aponte (PEBA) in
Maracaibo.
The best
of the Zulian team were: Nahziah Carter and Jesse Zarzuela, who both scored 26 points.
While Luis “Tapipa” Duarte stood out with 12 points,
six rebounds and an equal number of assists, SBP press reports.
In the other
match, Guaiquerís achieved his classification in La Asunción, taking the
victory with a close 87-83 against Trotamundos de Carabobo.
The
Guaiquerís Arena witnessed a match that included a
constant exchange of baskets, reaching 82 with one minute left.
However, the insulars took advantage of the location and took a
definitive advantage in those moments, with Pedro Chourio being the leader in the closing,
with a double and then a free kick.
Chourio was
the most outstanding of the day, with 30 points, closely guarded by Gelvis
Solano, who finished with 27 points, followed by José Ascanio, who scored 15 points.
For
the Blue Express, James Reese scored 19 points and Donta Smith 16 points.
Now Guaiquerís
de Margarita and Gaiteros del Zulia join Marinos de Anzoátegui and Crocodiles from Caracas.
The semifinals
start on Wednesday, May 27, Gaiteros del Zulia vs. Marinos de Anzoátegui at 7:00 PM, at
Pedro Elías Belisario Aponte, Maracaibo
For their part,
Crocodiles from Caracas and Guaiquerís from Margarita will be measured at 7:00 PM, in the United Nations Park, Caracas.
