This Tuesday, the right-wing government in Argentina of Javier Milei made the decision not to submit his candidacy to join the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In this regard, civil organizations and Argentine society began the debate on the action that will allow the ruler Milei to intensify ways to counter demonstrations against several of his policies.
Milei's circle believes that the decision is in line with his systematic policy of withdrawing multilateral organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), as a way to avoid so many explanations and reports to institutions that he considers “bureaucrats”.
During a press conference with international media, the order issued from the Casa Rosada, seat of the Argentine executive branch, was detailed and was directly communicated to the representative of that nation to the UN, Francisco Tropepi.
The manifestations of rejection of the position of the Argentine government are diverse and are expressed through social networks. Renowned Uruguayan political analyst and communicator Martín Sarthou released a message reflecting a position also expressed by other figures linked to Latin American politics: “The government of Javier Milei is withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council to satisfy conjunctural alignment. And the rest? We analyzed Uruguay, Brazil and Chile.”
