Through joint work between the national and regional governments, the activities of the Zulia Oncology Network began with the articulation of seven institutions: the Oncologist Dr. Humberto Fernández Morán, the Center for Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Dr. Jorge García Tamayo, the High Cost Pharmacy, the Oncology Génesis Petit, the National Institute of Social Security, the University Hospital of Maracaibo and the Hospital of Pediatric Specialties.
The creation of this cancer network includes hospitals and other institutions that depend on the three levels of government and which will initially guarantee care for patients for a timely diagnosis of their cases, the application of the required treatment and the proper follow-up needed by a person affected by any of these pathologies.
The network will deliver five thousand drugs to patients already selected and 451 high-cost treatments, local press reported. Governor Luis Caldera said that it will be under the guidelines of the Minister of People's Power for Health, Magaly Gutiérrez, and the network will seek to coordinate with private sector organizations and foundations that care for these patients who are fighting a battle for health and life.
