Governor Alejandro Terán: 49% of buildings evaluated in La Guaira are habitable

The governor of the state of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán, reported this Thursday, July 16, that 49% of the 2,400 homes and buildings inspected by the presidential commission have already been declared habitable, marking significant progress in the entity's recovery phase.

At a conference held in Brisas de Maiquetía, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Terán explained that technical inspections have made it possible to classify buildings using a traffic light system.

Of the total evaluated, he specified that 49% obtained the green light when they met the conditions to be inhabited; 28% were classified as yellow because they required masonry repairs before their occupation, while 22% remain at a red light and will be subject to new evaluations to determine if it can be recovered through structural reinforcements or if the definitive relocation of its inhabitants will be necessary.

On the other hand, in a review of the Última Noticias portal, he specifies that in Brisas de Maiquetía, where rehabilitation work began on 20 residential towers that concentrate 600 apartments. The works will benefit 659 families, equivalent to 3,041 people, who remain out of their homes while the repairs are completed.

Terán pointed out that these buildings have damage that can be corrected without compromising their main structure, so that families can return once the recovery work is completed.

Regarding the care of the victims, he reported that currently 10,350 people are staying in 24 temporary camps set up by the National and Regional Government. In addition to this figure, there are another 4,300 people who remain in itinerant camps, installed with tents and bunk beds in the immediate vicinity of the affected urban areas, while waiting for the rehabilitation of their homes.

He also highlighted that the Venezuela Renace Plan is advancing simultaneously in 13 sectors of the state. In addition to Brisas de Maiquetía, the crews began recovery work this Thursday in the communities of Piar, César Nieves, the Rómulo Gallegos housing estate, Marapa Marina and the Ana Victoria Campos buildings, where structural repairs are also being carried out.

The governor thanked the Government of Turkey for its support, which has helped to send more than 200 tents, food, tools and more than 600 hygiene kits for families affected by the emergency.

He also stated that “we continue to recover deceased people. With sadness in our hearts, we have been able to identify them, give them a Christian burial and bring a little peace to their families.”

He stressed that the progress of evaluations and the start of repairs represent a sign of recovery for the entity.

“This news fills us with hope because, although we are still in the midst of the emergency, we are moving towards the rebirth of La Guaira,” he said, reiterating that the inspections will continue until the condition of all the affected buildings is defined.
