The second vice-president of the National Assembly (AN), Grecia Colmenares, said that the pilgrimage that covers the country is a call for national unity and for the construction of a shared horizon for all Venezuelans, during her participation in the day held in the Delta Amacuro state.
Colmenares said that the mobilization calls on each family to take up an act of awareness about the country being built. He indicated that the central message is to become instruments of peace and to bring good will to each community. “We have taken to the streets to say yes to peace, yes to the country that we all deserve,” he said.
He stressed that the pilgrimage is aimed at the generations that are growing up in Venezuela today and stressed that the country being built is for boys, girls and young people. He affirmed that diversity is one of the nation's fundamental values and that Venezuelans reject racism, discrimination and sexism. “This call calls us equals, it calls us to equity and to work together,” he said.
The parliamentarian thanked the Venezuelan opposition parties for joining the national call, pointing out that the initiative does not respond to any political organization, but to the common interest of Venezuela. He added that the country's compass must be respect, tolerance and solidarity, and that the historical and Bolivarian root is the meeting point for moving forward as a nation.
He demanded the cessation of the blockade and of the unilateral coercive measures, stating that they directly affect the Venezuelan people. He pointed out that workers will continue to mobilize until May 1 to demand the lifting of these actions. “We have been a free, sovereign and independent country for more than 200 years,” he said.
