This Wednesday, a meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) was held in Brussels at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Union (EU), with the participation of heads of mission and representatives of the respective Diplomatic Missions accredited to the continental block.

The participants welcomed with great satisfaction the role and contribution of Jorge Valero Briceño, Head of the Venezuelan Mission to the EU, as coordinator of the Group's activities in Brussels.

Debates in this format in Brussels began in April 2023, with the objective of contributing to the work of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter in New York and Geneva.

The meeting focused on the topic Current Threats to Multilateralism. In this regard, participants denounced the dangerous policies of certain governments that undermine the stability and peaceful development of sovereign States, including unilateral coercive measures, neocolonial practices and judicial aggression.

The meeting emphasized the need to respect all the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and in their interrelation.

The participants of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter agreed to continue regularly with constructive debates on current international issues.
