Last Saturday, June 20, the Herencia group celebrated the feast of San Juan Bautista with an emotional meeting in the spaces of the New Circus of Caracas, where they thanked the saint for obtaining the International Cubadisco Prize 2026, one of the most important awards in the Latin American music industry.
According to information from the Ministry for Culture, the award was
awarded for the work “Portal: Symphony for the
Drum”, performed together with the Juan José
Landaeta Symphony Orchestra of the National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela.
Between the sound of the maracas, the
drums and the warmth of all the audience present, the Minister of Popular Power
for Culture, Raúl Cazal, joined the celebration together with the
vice-ministers, Gabriela Simoza, of culture; and Miqueas “Piki” Figueroa, of audiovisual culture.
During this visit, the authorities shared closely with the members of the Herencia group, the students of the Universidad del Tambor and the entire community.
The artistic proposal presented by Grupo Herencia, which was recognized with the International Cubadisco Prize 2026, is a production that merges Afro-Venezuelan percussion with the symphonic format, consolidating the Herencia group as a reference in the promotion and preservation of the country's musical traditions.
