In the 5th edition of the International Meeting of Venezuelan Specialty Coffee (Eicev), which will take place from July 10 to 12, the Guaicaipura municipality of Miranda state will participate with nine coffee samples from seven prominent local producers.

The varieties of the category were delivered by the Department of Agricultural Products of the jurisdiction and the Coffee Association of the Miranda State (Asocafe Miranda), bodies that seek to highlight the high quality and potential of coffee production in the region in this prestigious national event.

The Guaicaipura municipality is represented by Luis Paredes, Luis Salas and María Guerra de San Pedro, José Adrián and Mario Dacosta from El Jarillo, the El Trapiche farm in San Pedro and Cecilio Acosta's La Peñita farm, who will compete in various processing categories, mainly with lots of the Lavado and Honey varieties.

In this regard, Annmary Arnal, coordinating secretary of Municipal Productive Development and Economic Diversification, explained the relevance of this event, which is now in its fifth edition and brings together the best coffees in all of Venezuela.

“The event has very strict criteria since its first filter, which covers aspects such as crop management, moisture levels that must range between 10 and 12 points, sensory variety, granulometry and the strict classification of grains,” he explained.

He also stressed that thanks to five years of continuous work in extension work, farm supervision and sensory evaluations, the Guaicaipura municipality hopes to position itself in the first places of the event, thanks to the support of Mayor Farith Fraija.

The secretary recalled that local production has been entering the Chinese market for two years as specialty coffee together with Asocafe Miranda, which also has an important record in the competition, highlighting that in the first edition producer Luis Paredes reached fourth place, Luis Salas ranked among the best and the El Trapiche farm managed to position itself in the first five places.
