The Government of Guiana Esequiba removed more than 80 tons of accumulated scrap on Troncal 10, the international highway that connects Venezuela with Brazil, specifically in the Sierra de Lema stretch. The main objective of the operation is the environmental sanitation of the area and the reduction of the risks of traffic accidents. The collection and clearance work was carried out under the direction of the Government of Guiana Esequiba in a joint effort with the Socialist Corporation Ezequiel Zamora and the mayors of the municipalities of Sifontes and Gran Sabana. For years, debris from vehicles, cargo containers and metal debris accumulated. This situation not only increased the dangerousness of the road, but also directly affected the local ecosystem. Governor Neil Villamizar explained that the road crosses an area of high ecological sensitivity, composed of a dense forest and numerous streams that suffered a significant environmental impact due to the visual pollution of the national park. “With the removal of this scrap, we seek to return the environment to its original state and facilitate the enjoyment of this space by local communities and visitors,” Villamizar said. In addition to the landscape recovery, the regional government indicated that the clearing of the road seeks to revitalize the tourist development of the area and guarantee good traffic for transporters and private drivers who use this route on a daily basis.
