Head of State celebrates literary legacy of writer Julio Garmendia 126 years after his birth

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Tuesday the 126th anniversary of the birth of the writer Julio Garmendia, one of the teachers who portrayed Venezuela between realism and fiction.

Through his account on the social network X, the head of state described Garmendia as a “prominent writer, storyteller, diplomat and journalist from Larense, author of 'La Tienda de Muñecos, 'one of his most valued and most important works, considered a classic of fantastic Venezuelan literature”.

Garmendia was born on January 9, 1898 in the town of El Tocuyo, in the state of Lara, and is considered an introducer to the fantastic realism of Spanish-American literature.

In addition, he stood out because his texts reflected the essence of the Venezuelan people of the 20th century, he emphasized realism and the fantastic in his works, because Venezuela was torn between the rural and the nascent metropolises.
