The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, categorically denied this Thursday a series of “fake news” spread against Venezuela, especially from the United States (USA), while denouncing the existence of a human trafficking network, led by the extreme opposition, that would have transferred criminals abroad.

“The amount of lies they invent... In Venezuela there are no mental hospitals. There are 4 major psychiatric hospitals that have an open-door psychiatric care technique and people with mental health problems have care on site, therapy and at home,” he said.

These statements come after his US counterpart, Donald Trump, accused Venezuela of allegedly being responsible for the worsening of social problems in the North American nation. In this regard, he said that the Caribbean country had emptied its “asylums” in the United States, something that the Venezuelan head of state categorically denied.

President Maduro directly addressed those who disseminate this information: “In Venezuela there are no mental hospitals, you Americans should know that... It really is an unreal story and it is a “fake news”.

Criminal human trafficking network

He accused opposition leaders of having orchestrated the transfer of criminals abroad. “Who, apart from some criminals, was taken to the north of the United States? They were taken by the very allies of those who govern today. We have proof... of how Juan Guaidó, David Smolansky, Carlos Vecchio, Leopoldo López, María Corina Machado and another group created a human trafficking network,” he said.

He assured that this network used El Darién to bring to the United States a group of criminals who had been defeated in Venezuela, including members of the Aragua Train. “In that human trafficking network, a recognized group of criminals was taken by Darién to the United States, who were defeated in Venezuela, because in Venezuela we defeated that group of the Aragua Train. We disappeared with the law and the Constitution in hand and all the criminal groups,” he said.

On the other hand, he affirmed that Venezuela enjoys high levels of citizen security thanks to the professionalization of its security bodies. He also said that the prison system is recovering under a humanistic approach.

Venezuela Irrelevant to Drug Trafficking

The president also denied accusations of drug trafficking, citing international reports and pointing to neighboring countries. “It proved. The DEA report, the United Nations report, the European Union report... shows that Venezuela is an irrelevant country in drug production and trafficking,” he said.
