President Nicolás Maduro assured that the United States threat against Venezuela is not aimed at fighting drug trafficking, but rather at regime change to seize wealth.

“It would be a war to seize Venezuela, oil, gas, gold, all natural wealth,” said the head of state, during a meeting with national and international media.

Maduro emphasized that Venezuela is prepared to preserve peace under any circumstances. “If we had to go into armed struggle to preserve independence and peace, we are prepared and much stronger,” he said.

He stated that the United States, using a large number of lies and narratives, wants to justify an escalation and impose colonial authorities in Venezuela.

The National President recalled that according to a report from the United Nations (UN), 87% of drugs come out through the Pacific, 8% come out through the Colombian Guajira and only 5% try to pass through Venezuela.

In this regard, he highlighted the fight that the Bolivarian Government has on all its borders against drug trafficking. “We are moving forward, hopefully next year we will be able to have Venezuela 100% free of drug trafficking and the presence of terrorist groups,” he said.

Maduro pointed out that in Venezuela marijuana is and will be illegal, here we are not going to fall into the “stupid fashion of legalizing any drug”.
