The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, warned the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean on Monday that the hostile actions of the United States (USA) could create a catastrophe in the region.

“If in our Caribbean home, attention, Caribbean and Caribbean, brothers and sisters, from Trinidad and Tobago, Guiana, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the entire Caribbean, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the Greater Caribbean; if in our house, the Greater Caribbean, they fill it with gunpowder and missiles, that could result in a catastrophe, in a great war in the Caribbean that has never existed and should never have been”, the head of state warned.

He pointed out that this war, driven by North American imperialism, “would be the war for regime change, for Venezuelan oil, for gas, for Venezuelan gold, for natural wealth. It's a lie that they say that a large quantity of drugs are sent from Venezuela, it's a lie,” he remarked.

In this regard, he indicated that US President Donald Trump “was wrong in the figure that came out to him, he said 300 million, no, they are 100,000 Americans who die annually, sadly, painfully from drugs, but from drugs such as fentanyl, synthetic drugs that are the ones that are massively destroying American and European consumers.”

Maduro emphasized that imperialism promotes false narratives to justify an escalation against Venezuela, “but the objective is not the fight against drug trafficking, the objective is to enter and seize Venezuela, impose colonial authorities in Venezuela and make a change of regime in Venezuela to seize Venezuela's immense oil and gas wealth. That's the goal,” he added.
