This Friday, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, assured that the technical reports prepared by his team on the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Irancan hardly be the basis for military action”.

According to Grossi, “the decision to take military action is political. It has nothing to do with our technical findings.”

The head of the IAEA distanced himself from the resolution approved by the agency's Board of Governors on June 12, which denounced Iran for violating its nuclear commitments. This resolution was used by Israel as one of the grounds to justify the attack.

He also reiterated that there are no signs that Iran maintains an active plan to manufacture nuclear weapons. The Iranian Government responded by accusing him of making these statements too late and of having turned the agency into a tool of war at the service of hostile powers.

Iran has severely criticized Grossi, after he acknowledged that there is no evidence of an organized plan by the Persian country to develop nuclear weapons.

Tehran said that statement contradicts the previous IAEA report, which was used as a basis to justify the Israeli military offensive.

Grossi also addressed the United States with a call to avoid the use of high-penetration weapons, such as anti-bunker bombs, against Iranian nuclear facilities. He insisted that only dialogue will prevent a major conflict: “They can destroy structures, but they cannot eliminate the knowledge or scientific progress achieved by Iran.”
