The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, celebrated this Tuesday the decision of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to include the Rome Statute in national legislation.

“I think this is something that should be applauded, that you (President Nicolás Maduro) have also committed yourself and the Government of Venezuela to incorporate the Rome Statute into the national legislation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in accordance with the values of the Constitution of this country,” said Khan.

During a joint press conference with President Nicolás Maduro, from the Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, the ICC Prosecutor said that “this is a very important step, we cannot underestimate it.”

Khan announced that his team will return to Venezuela in approximately three weeks to interact with Venezuelan experts, “so that we can work from a technical point of view on training and support, and other initiatives, to try to jointly solve a problem that will allow us Venezuela to continue to mature and solve the problems that exist.”
