The El Niño Simón Foundation, in the San Fernando municipality of Apure state, began a recruitment day to treat more than 300 children and adolescents with strabismus, a visual disorder characterized by misalignment of the eyes, which can affect both the vision and self-esteem of children.
According to a note from the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), patient recruitment began on December 16 and will run until December 19. During that day, patients will be evaluated and prepared so that, during the first quarter of 2025, they can undergo surgery, completely free of charge.
“We are going to treat more than 300 patients, who will be operated on in the first quarter of 2025. This day is a day carried out thanks to the management of Governor Wilmer Rodríguez, together with the Ministry of Health and mainly the Miracle Mission, in the plan of care for our people,” said the executive secretary of government, Mairin Moreno.
For his part, the single health authority in Apure, Oscar Rebolledo, explained that this initiative gives continuity to the regional ophthalmological care plan that has already benefited more than 600 patients with pterygium and cataracts since the beginning of December.
