As part of the commemoration of the 53rd anniversary of the National Park Institute (INPARQUES), from the Rancho Grande Biological Station in Henri Pittier National Park, a tribute was paid to park rangers, who are responsible for protecting ecosystems.
According to a press release from the government of Aragüeña, various commemorative and operational activities were carried out during the day, including the provision of equipment for the forest fire department, recognition of the work of park rangers and the inauguration of a specialized nursery for the reproduction of the Child Tree, an emblematic and endemic species of the Cordillera de la Costa.
The activity was strongly represented by national, regional and local authorities, including the Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez; the Minister of Popular Power for University Education and Governor Joana Sánchez, among other authorities.
From these spaces, the holder of the environmental portfolio highlighted the historical and ecological value of the nation's protected areas, which cover more than 25 million hectares distributed in 44 national parks, 65 recreational parks and 36 natural monuments.
“We wanted to celebrate these 53 years of Inparks here, where this environmental policy was born, in Henri Pittier Park, a source of pride for the nation and our people,” said Minister Rodríguez.
In the same context, during the event, the minister highlighted the progress of environmental conservation policies in Venezuela and announced the start of a national agenda for sanitation, reforestation and the release of wildlife.
In this regard, as part of wildlife conservation programs, the authorities decided to reintroduce two specimens of dog foxes to their natural habitat.
These specimens had been rescued during a forest fire that occurred the previous year in the park and were rehabilitated at the Maracay Zoo.
Finally, the minister reported that, following the guidelines of President Delcy Rodríguez, more than 8,500 workers and service providers from INPARQUES, CONARE and other affiliated entities will be deployed throughout the national territory during the anniversary month.
Among the goals set for this agenda, the following stand out:
Reforestation: The planting of more than 50,000 trees in degraded areas affected by forest fires.
Wildlife release: The return to wildlife of approximately 70 specimens of various protected species.
Sanitation: Comprehensive cleaning and maintenance days in national and recreational parks in the country.
