With the idea of deepening the analysis of the history of the battle of Ayacucho, the International Colloquium “Ayacucho 1924-2024: Unity, Sovereignty and Peace” was installed this Saturday at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CELARG) in Caracas, which will take place until December 8.

During the beginning of this activity, the president of Celarg, Pedro Calzadilla, emphasized the importance of this event, which commemorates the heroic feat of this battle, which marks its bicentenary on December 9.

“What a joy to be here at this time of the homeland, at this time of our America, of the great homeland. Welcome to all international guests, to all the collectives, institutions, that live in the movement of insurgent history, a movement that exists in Venezuela, which brings together personalities, collectives, institutions, of those who are active in the cause of the homeland, of historical consciousness, of the liberation of our homeland and of our America in a very close commitment not only to the past, but above all to the present,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president of the National Center for Historical Studies, Omar Hurtado, during his participation in the event, highlighted the relevance of the legacy left by the battle.

“For us, the Ayacucho campaign is the result of a strategy developed by the Liberator, masterfully executed by Antonio José de Sucre, and which produced the result of a struggle that has not ceased. As Commander Chávez said, they are not two different struggles, it is the same fight. We have been fighting against imperialism for 200 years and we have demonstrated that peoples willing to be free defeat great empires. That's the commitment,” he emphasized.

This event has more than 20 national and international speakers, in a space for reflection on the historical significance of this historic feat, in connection with its Bicentennial. Historians and academics from countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Peru, Honduras, Mexico and Puerto Rico will analyze the military, political, social and cultural aspects of the Battle of Ayacucho, as well as the current validity of Bolivarian thought and project in America.
