During the National Popular Consultation that is taking place
this Sunday in the country, approximately 15 international observers from
different parts of the world gathered at the
Dr. José de Jesús Arocha National Educational Unit, in Petare, Sucre municipality in the state of
Miranda, to evaluate the participation process.
In this electoral center, where eight communal councils exercise their
right to vote, international guests highlighted the
massive, leading and democratic participation of the community.
Puerto Rican sociologist Ramón Grosfoguel said that this
is a practice he considers unprecedented and an example for the world.
“This shows that the entire international campaign against Venezuela
is a fallacy, here we vote for community priorities, this is an example
for the world of participatory democracy, of the president for the people, for
those of us who come from outside this is not normal, and I congratulate the
Bolivarian Government and President Nicolás Maduro for their communal system of participation,” he said.
In the same way, the observers David MacDonald, from Barbados; and
Catia Colmenares, from Mexico, expressed their support and admiration for the
initiative, and highlighted the importance of consultation and the opportunity
afforded to the people to exercise their power in an environment of peace and self-awareness.
“This is an important consultation, you are empowering the people, giving the population the opportunity to participate in a democratic process. They are demonstrating our origins and what allows us to empower the people of the Caribbean, this is what socialism is all about,” said MacDonald.
For his part, Mamadu Djabi Djalo, overseer of Guinea-Bissau,
stressed that Venezuela is the most democratic country in the world. “This is
an experience for everyone, it's not easy to see these liberation processes
in the world. We see the people of Venezuela strengthened,” he said.
