Iran's official IRNA news agency reported that at least 28 people died and 23 others were injured when a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims capsized in the province of Yaz to Iraq.

According to information provided by the Iranian agency, Mohammad-Ali Malekzadeh, director general of the provincial crisis management department, explained that the accident occurred this Tuesday in the village of Dehshir, around 21:50 local time ( 18:20 GMT).

Malekzadeh added that 14 injured people are in critical condition and are being treated at medical centers in the province.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of precious human lives in the bus accident in Iran,” Malekzadeh said while asking the Pakistani consulate in the Persian country to assist in recovery efforts.
