The acting Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, said that the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), was not possible without the support of the United States Government.

During an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss the assassination of Haniyeh, the Persian diplomat stressed that Israel's main financier for committing its crimes is the United States.

He added that, in the absence of any appropriate action by the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), Iran will exercise its “inherent right to legitimate self-defense against Israeli aggression.”

He emphasized that Iran is prepared for future “aggressions” by Israel against its country's sovereignty.

According to the Xinhua website, Haniyeh, who was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian last Tuesday, was assassinated along with his bodyguard early last Wednesday when his residence in Tehran was attacked. Iran accused Israel of carrying out the attack and promised “a tough and painful response”.
